Comparing Hosting Plans
By Kristian
When shopping for a web host and a web hosting package it is important to take the time to compare the services offered by more than one hosting company. Do not select the first host you hear about or the first hosting provider you find. By taking your time to do some comparisons, you are more likely to find the host that best suits your needs and that offers you the best value for your money.
Devise a list of potential web hosts so that you can begin the task of comparing those hosts and their hosting packages offered. There are many ways that you can create a list of hosts to further research. Ask others about the web hosts they use and if they have any recommendations. Visit web hosting and webmaster forums to find feedback and advice on good hosts. You can also search hosting directories and use search engines to search for hosts.
Visit the website for all the hosts on your list. Compare at least 3-5 different hosts. Pay careful attention to the hosting plans offered by each host. Begin by looking at the basics of each plan offered by the hosts. How much disk space and web space is offered with each plan? What do the plans cost per month? You may find that two hosting providers offer virtually identical hosting plans for quite different prices. This is one reason you are comparing hosts. However, do not stop at just comparing fees for each hosting package.
When viewing hosting plans keep in mind the features and applications you want with your hosting services. Do you need many email accounts? Will your website be using databases? Does your site use ecommerce features? Take a look at each hosting plan so that you can cross out any host or hosting packages that do not include the features you need. Again, you will want to compare the prices of the hosting packages with the features you need and the amount of disk space and bandwidth you desire.
As you compare hosts, you will want to take other factors into consideration besides the details and price of hosting services. Look at each website to find what methods of customer support are offered. You may find that one website offers easy access to customer support, while another host seems as if their support may be difficult to count on. You may even consider asking each potential host a presale question or two. This provides you with the opportunity to compare the results and response time you receive from each host.
No matter which host you select you will want to receive secure, dependable and quality hosting services. That is why it is important to gather as much information about each host as possible. You may find that one host has particular low monthly fees. Upon comparison, you may realize they are not the host for you even with their low costs. If you discover that other companies offer better quality services, they may be worth the extra few dollars each month.
Search hosting providers’ websites for information about their data centers. What quality equipment do they use? How secure and their data centers? What methods of data backup are offered? Search each host to try to find out about the number of connections they have to the Internet and what providers they utilize for connections. Look for information about their servers and the statistics of those servers. After carefully reviewing some of this information, you can come up with a clearer idea of how powerful and reliable their hosting services are likely to be and you will be able to select the host that seems the most reliable.
By taking your time to compare hosts, you can save money in the long run. Take your time to look for good deals and quality service. A low hosting fee will not do you much good if you end up having problems with a host. This is especially true if you run a business website. If your host provides services that are less than quality, your website may not perform as it should which can cost you time and money. Compare hosts before making a final decision.
